Roman Boxing Gym at the 2024 NABGC Championships

Three Roman Boxing Gym boxers entered the National Association of Boys and Girls Clubs (NABGC) Championships in November. Originally formed to provide structured activities and support for young people, the NABGC has grown into a nationwide network of clubs dedicated to nurturing talent and fostering community spirit.

One of the NABGC’s flagship events is the National Boxing Championships, a prestigious tournament that serves as a bridge between development-level and elite championships. This competition is tailored for youth aged up to 20, offering a platform for young boxers to showcase their skills.

At the Western Counties final held at Broad Plain, Terence faced Leo Powell from Fight Factory in Gloucester. They’ve met before, and like their previous bout, this one was closely contested. The contest went to the judges and a narrow 3-2 split decision went in favour of Powell.

The next day, Ronny Scott competed in his Western Counties final against a Royal Navy boxer originally from Scotland. Despite not delivering his best performance, Ronny secured a 4-1 split decision victory, earning the Western Counties title. Advancing to the pre-quarterfinals, he faced the Welsh champion Darren Daly but, unfortunately, did not progress further.

Daisy once more had a series of byes leading up to the finals, due to a lack of opponents in her category. She was drawn to face her same opponent from the Development Championships final in the semifinals. However, her opponent withdrew as Daisy had stopped her in their previous bout. In the finals held in Bletchley, Daisy faced Ellie Newall from NBA Manchester, an experienced boxer with three national titles and five Northwest Counties titles to her name. Despite Newall’s impressive resume, Daisy’s speed and skill secured her a unanimous decision victory, adding another national title to her accolades.

Roman Boxing Gym’s participation in the 2024 NABGC Championships highlights the dedication and resilience of its boxers. The club remains committed to nurturing talent and achieving excellence in the boxing community.
