Roman Boxing Gym continued its international journey as two of our boxers, Harvey James and Ryan Matthews, travelled to Poland to compete in the prestigious Warsaw Boxing Cup. Representing English clubs, including boxers from Grey Ranks Boxing Club and Parkstone ABC, our team took on tough Polish opposition in a thrilling night of boxing hosted by Legia Fight Club Warszawa.

This opportunity arose following the success of our recent trip to Spain. Martin of Grey Ranks Boxing Club, who has deep ties to Polish boxing, was eager to build on the momentum and organized this latest adventure. The Warsaw event featured 30 bouts, with twelve selected as an England clubs vs. Poland clubs showcase, complete with a ring parade and interviews.
Harvey James and Ryan Matthews both stepped up to the challenge, each putting in strong performances against experienced opponents. Harvey faced a Polish boxer with an impressive 71 bout record, while Ryan battled hard in a closely contested bout. Despite both boxers losing on split decisions, they gained invaluable experience and earned the respect of the crowd and their competitors.

Grey Ranks’ Natan Liro and Jacob Spence delivered standout performances, securing victories in their respective bouts, while Parkstone ABC’s two boxers also emerged victorious. Overall, the England clubs squad claimed an 8-4 win over their Polish club opponents.
Supporting our boxers were Roman Boxing Gym coaches Darren and Jimmer. Jimmer, who has a long history with Darren, was full of praise for the experience, calling it “the best weekend in years.” The camaraderie among the traveling teams was evident throughout, with boxers and coaches from Roman, Grey Ranks, and Parkstone forming a strong unit.

This trip reinforced our growing ambition for the international stage. Plans are already in motion for making annual trips to Poland, strengthening the ties between our clubs and providing our boxers with more opportunities to compete and develop. We are also eager to bring Polish boxers to the UK on our future shows, continuing this exciting exchange.
Roman Boxing Gym is proud of our boxers’ performances and the connections we are building. These experiences push our boxers to new heights, and we can’t wait for the next challenge!
