About Roman Boxing Gym

Roman Boxing Gym is a registered charity and an England Boxing-affiliated club based at Twerton Park in Bath. We are run entirely by volunteers, with no paid positions at the club. Founded on Boxing Day 2018, we’ve built a strong reputation for delivering high-quality boxing training to everyone from complete beginners to competitive athletes. While we count national and regional champions among our ranks, many of our members train for fitness, enjoyment, and the sense of community we’re proud to foster. We’re a welcoming, community-focused club with a supportive atmosphere, committed to helping people grow both inside and outside the ring. We pride ourselves on being inclusive and ambitious, with a passion for developing not only our boxers, but also the coaches who support them.

Role Overview

We’re looking for friendly, reliable Volunteer Coach Assistants to support our coaching team during training sessions. You’ll help deliver a positive experience for all members, whether they’re training to compete, stay fit, or simply enjoy boxing in a supportive atmosphere. This role is ideal for anyone with a genuine interest in amateur boxing and offers a great introduction to coaching, with the flexibility to grow at your own pace.

You don’t need to be a qualified coach. We just ask that volunteers are happy to get involved and can commit to at least one evening per week.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the coaching team during training sessions, including setting up equipment and assisting boxers with drills and technique
  • Engage with members and help create a safe, welcoming, and respectful environment
  • Learn from experienced coaches and gain hands-on experience in a busy, active boxing gym
  • Assist with warm-ups, partner drills, and bag work under the guidance of senior coaches
  • Help keep the gym space organised, clean, and safe for all participants

Ideal Candidate

  • Has previous experience as a boxer, or any coaching experience through sport, youth work, or community groups, even informally such as helping out with teams or activities, or has a strong interest in the sport of amateur boxing
  • Enjoys working with people and is confident in a group environment
  • Reliable, observant, and positive in attitude
  • Keen to support others and be part of a team
  • Willing to complete safeguarding training and an enhanced DBS check, which are both required for the role

You don’t need formal qualifications, just enthusiasm, good communication, and a willingness to learn and help out.

What We Offer

  • A welcoming and supportive atmosphere to get involved in
  • The opportunity to learn from experienced coaches and gain practical experience
  • Mentoring and development opportunities for those who may wish to become a qualified coach in future
  • A chance to contribute to a friendly and inclusive boxing community
  • Travel opportunities for those who wish to get more involved with our competitive boxers
  • Social activities including team meals and trips to boxing events, such as recent visits to the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham and the Paris Olympics
  • A meaningful role supporting the health and confidence of people from all walks of life
