Two huge amateur boxing events take place later this month at Bath’s historic Assembly Rooms on Bennett Street. Doors open at 12.30pm on Saturday 30th September 2023 for the England Boxing Western Counties Development Championship Finals, and with 21 matches scheduled a prompt start is certain! Junior (aged 15-16), Youth (aged 17-18) and Senior (aged 19-40) boxers from across the South West will each compete over 3 rounds for the title of Regional Development Champion in their respective weight class, and the right to challenge for National honours later this year.
Then it’s doors open once again at 6pm for the second show of the day, Roman Boxing Gym’s very first boxing fundraiser show. With 15 scheduled bouts featuring local boxers, this is a special achievement for the club marking a significant milestone. The home show is an amateur boxing gym’s flagship event: an opportunity for boxers to demonstrate their skills in front of friends and family, and for locals to show their support while learning more about the club and sport. Roman Boxing Gym has received overwhelming support since opening in 2018, which has ultimately made organising these events possible.
This is thought to be the first boxing event taking place at the Assembly Rooms in over 40 years. Capacity is strictly limited at this incredible venue and booking in advance is recommended to avoid missing out on such a historic event. Tickets are available at £15 for either show, or just £20 for both when bought together from romanboxing.sumupstore.com. Refreshments will be available throughout the day thanks to a licensed bar provided by Abbey Ales, and the venue is close to a wide choice of cafes, restaurants and take outs.
Due to stringent measures in place to protect boxers, contestants may be declared unfit to box in the run up to the event, including on the day. Therefore all matches are subject to change and information regarding the anticipated running order and total number of bouts is provisional.
