Roman Boxing is already embedded within the local community and works with a wide range of individuals, families, schools, third sector and public sector organisations across Bath. Over recent years we have developed relationships with organisations including Bath Mind, Curo, Julian House, several departments within Bath and North East Somerset Council, Boxwise, Holiday Activities and Food (HAF), local schools and Avon and Somerset Police.

Many of these relationships developed because organisations approached us directly after seeing the positive impact the club was already having within the community, or from previous experience with other England Boxing clubs elsewhere in the country. Despite operating from temporary and shared premises, there has been clear demand for the structure, discipline and positive environment that boxing can provide, particularly for young people and those who may benefit from additional support and guidance.

We have already delivered successful HAF sessions and further programmes are planned this summer. Schools have also shown growing interest in working with us, including previous after-school sessions with Ralph Allen School and planned activity with Hayesfield School. Referrals from support workers and partner organisations are becoming increasingly common, and we are now working towards creating clearer referral pathways so that individuals can access support through the club more consistently.

Until now, our ability to expand these partnerships has been limited by the uncertainty surrounding access to training facilities. Short notice closures and interruptions made it difficult to confidently commit to programmes or build long-term delivery plans with external organisations. Securing a permanent home changes this completely.

A stable, dedicated venue will allow Roman Boxing to become a far stronger community partner. It will give schools, charities, councils and support services confidence that activities can run consistently and safely throughout the year. It will also allow us to respond properly to the increasing demand for structured activities that promote health, confidence, discipline and community connection.

The long-term potential extends far beyond boxing sessions alone. England Boxing clubs already play an important role in supporting young people, improving wellbeing and helping reduce pressure on public services by providing positive environments, trusted role models and constructive activities in their communities. Roman Boxing now has the opportunity to establish that same long-term community value within Bath.

Examples from across the country show what becomes possible when community boxing clubs have the stability and resources needed to grow. Established clubs have developed successful partnerships with schools, local authorities, police, charities, health organisations and youth services, using boxing as a way to reach people who may benefit from additional encouragement, structure or support. These partnerships work because boxing clubs are often able to build trusted relationships in a familiar, informal environment where people feel comfortable and valued.

The foundations for this already exist at Roman Boxing. The demand from partner organisations is there, the community connections have begun, and the benefits are already being seen. Securing our building gives us the permanence required to move from individual projects and short-term opportunities towards lasting partnerships that can continue developing for centuries to come.
