Long Term Vision

Owning the building changes what Roman Boxing can become. For the first time in the club’s history, we would have the stability and security needed to plan properly for the future rather than continually adapting around short-term premises uncertainty. Instead of focusing energy on rent, relocation risk and temporary arrangements, the club would be able to invest fully in its members, programmes, volunteers and long-term community impact.

The current facility already demonstrates what Roman Boxing is capable of achieving, but it represents only a fraction of the building’s long-term potential. The space has capacity to operate two classes simultaneously during peak times while also allowing far greater flexibility to use the gym and equipment throughout the day. This creates opportunities to deliver a much wider range of activities to people across Bath, many of which have previously been impossible to commit to because of venue instability.

Over the coming years, Roman Boxing will establish itself not only as the permanent home of boxing in Bath, but as a recognised community hub supporting health, wellbeing, education and personal development through sport.

A secure base would allow the club to expand its work with schools, mentoring organisations and referral partners, creating structured programmes for young people and wider community groups throughout the day as well as during evening training hours. We see significant potential for partnerships involving mentoring, wellbeing activities, educational engagement and referral-based programmes that use boxing as a gateway to confidence, discipline, routine and positive life change.

The facility would also allow greater daytime use for schools, community organisations and support services, alongside specialist activities targeted towards groups across the city. This could include wellbeing sessions, Boxwise style programme delivery, targeted groups such as expanding women’s boxing, activities for older adults, disability inclusive programmes and other England Boxing initiatives already proven successful in clubs around the country. Roman Boxing has already built the foundations to deliver this: the volunteers, coaches, and some of the partnerships are already in place. Securing ownership of the building ensures that the progress made over the past years is protected and gives future generations in Bath the same opportunity to benefit from a boxing club that belongs to its community.

As the club grows, we expect the coaching and volunteer team to continue expanding naturally alongside active recruitment and development of new volunteers. One of Roman Boxing’s strengths has always been that members have become volunteers and mentors themselves, helping create a sustainable cycle of community involvement and shared ownership.

Financially, ownership also creates long-term stability. Lower operating costs compared with previous rental arrangements will allow significantly more resources to be reinvested directly into charitable activities and community provision. Instead of constantly rebuilding around temporary facilities, the club can focus on steady, sustainable growth over decades.

Most importantly, securing the building ensures that Bath has a permanent home for amateur boxing and all the wider opportunities that come with it. The vision is not simply to run more boxing sessions, but to create a lasting community asset that continues supporting people of all ages and backgrounds for generations to come.

The opportunity now exists to secure a space that can grow with the city, respond to community needs and provide centuries long value far beyond the sport itself.
