Practical Details

Roman Boxing is already operating from the premises on Bellotts Road that the charity is seeking to purchase. The building is fully functional as a boxing gym and has been in active use since April 2026 following an extensive fit out completed over the winter by volunteers. Importantly, the infrastructure, membership base and volunteer workforce are already in place. This fundraising campaign is not based on a speculative proposal or future ambition alone. The gym already exists, is already operating successfully and is already delivering regular coached physical activity to the local community.

More than 35 volunteers contributed over 1,000 hours to prepare the space over the winter, demonstrating the level of commitment and community support behind the club. This work transformed the premises into a dedicated training facility with exclusive use for Roman Boxing and its members.

The gym now has space for our three boxing rings, 21 punch bags and a wide range of specialist equipment built up by the club over many years. Much of this equipment had previously remained unused in storage because earlier venues lacked the space to accommodate it, or because it was too difficult to set up and take down between classes. For the first time, the club has the ability to operate fully from one stable location with all equipment permanently installed and accessible.

This facility allows the club to deliver a broad range of sessions across the week for different ages and abilities, including junior boxing, senior boxing, fitness training and skills development. Current class sizes are typically in the range of 20 people, with over 150 people attending across weekly sessions.

The club currently trains participants from the age of 8 upwards. Under England Boxing rules, competitive boxers can compete up to the age of 40, while fitness and skills training remains open to all ages with no upper limit. As the organisation grows, Roman Boxing is looking to introduce additional structured activities for younger children and their parents, specialist programmes aimed at older adults, people with limited mobility and any others who may benefit from targeted physical activity opportunities.

Roman Boxing remains entirely volunteer-led, and the motivation behind the club has always been simple: to teach the skills, values and opportunities that boxing can provide, while making them accessible to as many people in Bath as possible. The Bellotts Road location is accessible from across Bath by public transport and provides a safe, supervised environment where members can train consistently throughout the year. Importantly, it is just 5 minutes walk from our previous location in Twerton, ensuring continuity for our existing members.
